Jury finds mother of, now, 18-year-old daughter (8-12 years old at time of alleged abuse) not guilty of repeatedly placing foreign objects into child's vagina.
She could have been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
NOT GUILTY OF ROBBERY
Black man who was alleged to have been videotaped robbing a convenience store found not guilty by a jury where defendant claimed he was out of state at time. He could have been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
DWI HUNG JURY FOLLOWED BY PLEA BARGAIN
Severely handicapped man who was injured during the arrest and suffered from alcoholic blackouts obtains hung jury after full trial that alleged felony DWI and perjury for lying to the grand jury about the circumstances of his arrest. He could have received an 11-year sentence. Before a required retrial on the multiple felonies, defendant was offered and accepted a plea to a single misdemeanor DWI with a six-month sentence.
SEX CRIMES DISMISSAL
Eighteen-year-old defendant who was charged with others for sex offenses against a 14-year-old for allegedly shoving a soda bottle into his rectum and giving him several "wedgies" during horseplay dismissed for lack of sufficient evidence to constitute a crime.
JURY FINDS FELONY DWI GUILTY OF MISDEMEANOR
Man with seven prior drinking and driving convictions and charged with felony DWI again found guilty by jury of only the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired. He could have faced seven years in prison on the felony. He was sentenced to one year on the misdemeanor.
RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT DISMISSAL
Passenger in car where driver was arrested for DWI found not guilty by jury where it was alleged that passenger had grabbed arresting officer's gun, which discharged inside the car where three other passengers were seated. Passenger could have been sentenced to seven years in prison.
DWI DISMISSED
Young man employed as a truck driver with Commercial Driver License, charged with misdemeanor DWI and following too closely on the New York State Thruway (I-87) after he reported a hit-and-run of his passenger vehicle by a tractor trailer that did not stop after the accident and was never apprehended. Dismissed based upon lack of proof of impairment despite blood test results and observations of intoxication by state trooper.
MURDER CHARGE PLEA BARGAINED TO CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE
Tragic shooting death of 18-year-old son by father during physical confrontation in their home results in five-year probation sentence where father could have faced 25 years in prison.
